Year of the Dragon "Jasmine Blossoms & Fireworks"

Compassionate visions for a new year! To celebrate 2024, as a first…we came together with our own vertical production team to collaborate on a concept and candle that would evoke the best of Joya’s NY heritage with the celebratory expressions of the Lunar New Year’s Wood Dragon. 

Joya’s world is intimate, and our team is close. We break bread and solve problems together, regardless of professional role or personal background.

To celebrate our new location and the opportunities to come, we flipped the script on the members of our team who work in production and assembly–many of them hailing from Hong Kong and China–and got them involved in product development, helping us to determine the scent direction and visual identity for this micro drop! 

The results are a prismatic experience entitled “Jasmine Blossoms & Fireworks.” 

When lit, sparks of firecrackers explode into a subtle parade of soft floral notes like peony, hyacinth leaf and jasmine.. Earthy hints of palo santo , sandalwood and vetiver provide a grounded, smoldering counterpoint. Imagine the mystical Dragon drifting through its own illusive smoke, twisting around Lady Liberty and floating above the festive smells and sounds of Lunar festivities in the city. We used a red wooden wick to amplify the elemental nature and spirit of the Wood Dragon.

Screen printed on soft, translucent-pearl white glass, the artwork is evocative: Brooklyn in the very early aughts! Nuances of the dragon embracing the Statue of Liberty emboldens the spirit of Joya’s new home and new journey to come on the pier in Red Hook.

Top Notes: Mandarin orange, hyacinth leaf and pink pepper

Heart: jasmine blossoms, peony and pale musk

Drydown: Santalum Album, vetiver root, charcoal and palo santo
